The Hirschsprung Collection Museum Store

For the redesign of the museum store at The Hirschsprung Collection, Kristina Dam Studio’s Japanese Cabinet and Foldable Floor Shelf were carefully selected to create a functional yet refined display system. Blending timeless materials with a minimalist aesthetic, the pieces complement the museum’s curated atmosphere while allowing the products to take center stage.
Located in the heart of Copenhagen, The Hirschsprung Collection houses masterpieces from the Danish Golden Age to the Skagen painters and Symbolists. With works by artists such as C.W. Eckersberg, Anna Ancher, P.S. Krøyer, and Vilhelm Hammershøi, the museum offers visitors an intimate and timeless experience.

When redesigning the museum store, the ambition was to create a retail space that reflects the unique atmosphere of the museum while offering visitors a carefully curated selection of products. The goal was to move beyond the traditional souvenir shop and create an international, design-driven experience with a refined and cohesive assortment. Today, the store features an exclusive mix of art books, lifestyle objects, and handmade pieces – including ceramics inspired by the Wadden Sea and products specially developed for the museum’s temporary exhibitions.
The interior design draws inspiration from the quiet elegance of Vilhelm Hammershøi’s interior paintings. A thoughtful combination of brushed steel shelving and warm wooden elements creates a balance between structure and softness. Kristina Dam Studio’s Japanese Cabinet and Foldable Floor Shelf create a functional and harmonious framework, where steel and wood meet in a balanced expression, allowing each product to take center stage while inviting visitors to explore and engage.
